Continuous Improvement Program
Smith-Midland (DE) has implemented a Continuous Improvement (CI) program, with the objective to make a commitment to create a better product, work environment, and business everyday. The CI program conducts up to 20 Kaizen (a Japanese word meaning Continuous Improvement) events in a year. The Kaizen process is a time-sensitive, rapid-deployment methodology that employs a focused, team-based approach to problem resolution. Each event has a standard set of objectives, one of which is improving business practices to becoming environmentally friendly.
Environmentally Friendly Products
Smith-Midland
Corporation (DE) manufactures and licenses two environmentally friendly
precast products. The first green product line is Beach
Prisms, a natural method to help rebuild beaches through sand accretion and/or accumulation. Beach Prisms
also become
artificial reefs in the water and provide sanctuary for marine life.
The other green product line is SlenderWall, Architectural Precast Concrete and Steel Stud Building Panels. SlenderWall helps by:

Energy Savings Projects
Smith-Midland Corporation (DE) is undergoing an initiative for purchasing environmentally friendly products. For instance, the metal halide light bulbs in the administrative offices and production plants are being replaced with high bay, high intensity fluorescent blubs. This move will cut lighting energy costs by one third. Other initiatives include a move to purchasing environmentally friendly paper and office products, and also reducing the amount of consumption.
Recycling Program
Smith-Midland Corporation (DE) maintains a recycling program, by placing recycling bins for paper, card board, printer cartridges, and aluminum throughout the facilities. The recyclables are then picked up once a week.
